A pretty rough looking dime but I thought an interesting example of a small rim burr.

It looks like a dent (a hit from the edge of another coin) to me. But, I have not heard of rim burrs before, so this will be interesting to see what the others say.

Looks more like a coin scratch. Note that the ends taper at each end with a deeper mark in the center of the scratch. Also note that the line widens in the central area where the metal was pushed. If it were struck with a rim burr, the ends of the bur would be more abrupt.

Note that the metal contours with the rim curve. Because this was struck into the die, the whole affected area will now show a wave/splash of metal where the event happened. It will be just an outline of what was pressed into the coin.
