Both were found in a horde of rolled cents I purchased from an estate sale. I'm usually looking for silver but have recently become fascinated with wheat and Indian Head cents since Covid began last year. I know little to nothing about grading and how to tell a mint error from a ding or scratch during circulation. Your help would be appreciated!

Separate threads for each coin will eliminate confusion and give you more replies.

1). The SVDB appears to be in extra fine condition, and if genuine, would be worth several hundred dollars. This date and mint has been heavily counterfeited and altered since the 1950's so authentication is a must.

2). The 43 steel cent has that bluish and shiny reprocessed look where the zinc and rust was stripped off in an acid bath and the coin was re-plated with new zinc. This was done to a lot of steel cents back in the 1960's and 1970's. Worth a few cents over face. I have no idea what the error is.

$900-1100 retail .

the SVDB appears to be obverse die #2 and looks genuine. the coin is in the XF45/AU50 range. the eye appeal could pull this one down to XF45. this coin should be professionally graded as the price difference. t-bop is correct about the possible price if it grades straight.

On the 1943 steel wheatie, are you asking about the lamination error? Its pretty large. Can't say if it adds a premium though.

Wow thanks everyone for the info. I knew I had something discuss but just didn't know how to grade it. Great waking up to all these answers/replies.

And yes, I was referring to the laminating on the reverse of the steel. No idea what that is

AU on the SVDB but the color is off, looks to be an old cleaning and the coin retoned. Use a WHITE background next time please. I see no red flags with the given pictures, looks to be genuine - a close up of the MM would help.

AU-50 details

43 - replated, worth 5 cents
