Your coin has either been "spooned" as DBN commented or it has spent just enough time in a clothes dryer to flatten the edge and in effect erase the reeding. Either way it is not a mint error.

What does spooned mean and how does it happen? There's no physical alterations present and this is not a Dryer Coin. I have one of those as you guys pointed out before, and this has none of the same attributes as that... it also uas slight doubling, or overlaps, ( LOOK AT THE TORCH ON REVERSE) ALSO, if physically altered. How would someone change the material look by doing so? When I opened the roll I thought it was a penny. Never seem a dime with all copper/rose gold looking sides of any year. Especially not the whole coin mostly

@mzee, we actually see these posted quite frequently here at CCF. I recommend that you use the keyword SPOONED or Dryer Coin.in the search box. You will see lots of examples to compare against your own.

Yep. Dryer Coin or some other post minting operation. They are not uncommon. I received a quarter in change the other day that was equivalent to your dime, except with less damage to the center of the coin. I had it graded. I was hungry at work the other day, and the vending machine valued that dryer quarter as 25 cents. I was just happy that it still fit the slot and was recognized as genuine.

As the coin is struck in collar, it would have had to have the ridges when it was struck. The only way it could be produced without ridges is if it was struck out of collar. Did you lay this on top of a regular dime to see if the circumference is smaller?

to the CCF! The reeding may have been cut down or flattened. Do you know the weight? I've seen plumbing tools that are used to reduce the size of copper tubes used to achieve this look on reeded coins. Only takes a moment of boredom and a couple of turns of a handle and... instant error!

It's the same size though, no change, and it's really smooth for someone to have used a lathe, or any machinery on. Besides the color and no ridges, it looks and

The dryer quarter I recently found and spent had an edge equally as perfect. It was impressively uniform, and the diameter was still close to a normal quarter. Probably just hadn't been worked/damaged long enough.
For reeding to be missing as part of a minting error, wouldn't that have to be an out of collar strike, in which case it would be conspicuously larger in diameter? And the edge would not be so perfectly squared to the other faces of the coin?
Even if it were an error, there would seem to be too many of these to carry much value.

@mzee, you asked for and received our opinions on this but seem unconvinced that your coin is missing the reeding due to damage. That is completely fine—you can collect whatever you want. If you decide to get this authenticated at a TPG service, please follow up with us on this thread. Thx.
