It to me could be a straight clip, but it is more likely a bit-o-damage and it appears to have the start of a hole on the shield. Ahhh, the stories this cent could tell...how it got its missing metal by the rim, who tried to put a hole in it (who knows, perhaps some civil war soldier got this in change and decided to try to put a hole in it to keep it and got distracted somehow), and then it could have gotten spent if he needed a cent and likewise got worn down to its present condition.

I think that there is too much of a curve to it to be a straight clip. I think it got worn out on that edge.

Also the Blakesley affect is non existent on either side of the coin. PSD.
