I was just getting ready to 2x2 this one as RPM-004 when I decided to take one more look.
I noticed an anomaly on the obverse behind Lincoln's ear about where he took one from J.W. Booth.
From the knowledge I have attained, these are my observations;
It appears to be a chunk of the die busted off (hammer die) and got shoved around a little bit right there, until it flipped over and ended up struck in the coin.
There appears to be to me, an almost reverse inclusion to the right of the retained chip.
If you want, I could try to pop it out!
Looks like around the top of the ear is showing some delamination as well.
Considering the overall condition of this example, is it not odd that it looks like Abe's got a slug in there?

On the full coin shot you can see damage across the ear, it then gouged out a piece, just to the east of the chunk you are talking about and settled back in. Misplaced metal. Very cool RPM though.

This maybe a lamination issue? (Note images #4 & #5)

Coop, I actually thought that when I looked at image 4 really hard before I posted, because I saw the same thing but the full coin shot really looks like it took a hit, east to west and carried across. I do see what you're talking about though. The area above the ear is what got my attention, as far as a lam goes. I could be wrong though, it hasn't happened today and I'm usually good for 3 or 4, daily.

It may be both, after looking at it again. Maybe a hit knocked a lam loose.

My vote is for a small lam as well.

So then, that would be the displaced metal from the adjacent divot that is folded back. That makes more sense than a RIDB. Looks like the top of the ear could peel back as well with a little help.
Thanks for filling me in.
