First, you should know that this coin is still in the US Mint holder. I don't see spread or split serifs, but the glare on a proof, still in the mint holder make it hard to see.

However, the very thin lower loop of the "G" in "GOD" and the lower loop of the "R" in "TRUST" have me puzzled. It seems as if the letters go from wide to narrow then back again.

Variety Vista has similar distortion in the "G" and "R" as markers of DDO-003. However, I'm not convinced it is a DDO. I know that markers alone don't make it so.

So my questions are.
1. Is it normal for this year to have letters this
distorted?
2. What minting process would cause this?
3. Would you crack it out of the holder to take a closer
look?

Here is a normal example to compare with. It maybe just the normal design for that year?

If the devices are smaller, then it is a die polishing issue.

Thanks everyone! It was difficult finding images of "normal" coins to compare. I'm guessing there is some tolerance that allows such variation in the devices of every coin. Just wanted to check. I still may break open the set and look closer.

On PCGS they have an area called coinfacts. Those are images of slabbed coin with huge images. (some 6K pixels wide, I still enlarge them to 8K to get a closer view of what I'm looking at.
