Could be anything caused it, but it is not a doubled die. Even if it was, it would still be a damaged coin. (A cull)

Sorry but pending on year, looks like it may have been used as an emergency fuse (screw in type) in an older homes fuse panel...but no matter what or how...it's just plain PMD.

Looking at the date on the thread, it is not a Zinc cent. The damage was done after the strike. Note the full design is present. But somewhere along the way the coin was damaged.
