I actually had a test question in my undergrad tax class about a guy finding a $100 bill on the ground during the year.... a lot of people in the class didn't think it was taxable, but it is.

Seems to me that if I find $100, I should only have to claim it as income if the guy who lost it can claim it as an expense or loss. Since I doubt the guy who lost it got a receipt for the transaction, it seems to me like double-taxation if I pay taxes for it.

There is theory and there is reality. If one finds a $100,000 - it seems more likely that an individual would deal appropriately with the tax issue. For $100 found on the street (or the $10 cash back on my credit card for the $500 purchase) -- I'm sure few people actually consider the tax ramifications, much less do anything about them. Just keep in mind, these transgressions may block you from appointment to Obama's cabinet - so think twice before you neglect to clam that shiny penny you pick up.

Received my box of 2009 Sac's. looks like its all D mint rolls. I have gone thru five rolls and found a few that are keepers. Is there anyone that has received P mint rolls who would like to trade 5 unopened P rolls for my D rolls?

I know this is off topic, but that person could claim that loss on their taxes. Proving that loss might be hard though :)

I know everyone doesn't claim all that stuff, but saying it isn't taxable income isn't correct.

It might be tax free bc it isn't claimed...yet it is taxable under the current code.

I have a question.

I ordered a direct shipment of the Native Am. 1$ coins on Janurary 27th. I went to check up on my order once I noticed that there was nothing on my online credit card statement saying that I had been debited $250.

Under order status it is listed as : "Your order request is on hold."

What does this mean? It kind of tells me that I'll never receive my shipment for some reason or another. If it was just being processed I would expect to see just that ... "Your order request is being processed"

Meh?

It usually stays like that for a while because the mint is very slow. I ordered a box January 25 and mine still says the same thing yours does. The mint doesn't charge you until they send your order so that is why it isn't showing up on your account.
