Not dramatic but it did fool me for a second thinking it was PMD.

Is the feature raised or incuse? At a glance, it looks like it could be a couple 'drops' of a dried, once sticky substance.

Thanks CCF, I understand the confusion here because it is unusual and small.

1. These marks are incuse with no signs of metal being moved.

2. Adjacent to the larger incuse mark on the left you can see there is a chunk of metal surrounded by a crack. To me this is a tell tale sign of laminate error that is retained.

A couple sharp photos taken at somewhat shallow angles may help.

Looks according to light and shadows, they appear raised on the coin. So they maybe die damage on that area? If the light pattern was opposite on these, the opposite side would light and dark would be on the opposite side. So that clue tells me that they are raised.

Die gouges happen on the fields, not on the deeper devices. (usually)

Maybe this will help. The three areas going large to medium to small are incuse.

Thanks for the extra image showing the direction of the light source.

In the full coin they looked incuse but the closeups had me fooled into thinking they were raised. But since you have it in hand and knowing you would know what you were seeing I realized my mind was playing tricks with perception.

I'm not seeing any obvious bump or damage on the reverse in that area to indicate a hit on the obv (to remove any metal).

The irregular "crack" to the left of the larger incuse area could be a sign of an issue with the metal layers or do you think it might also be an irregular sharp edge on an object that created a "struck through"?
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
