Krause describes mintmark E as Karlsburg (Transylvania). I agree that for this type of 10 Kreuzer it only lists 1792 E (not 1791) and describes it as rare. I notice that the last digit of the date on enlarging looks peculiar for a 1, and the bottom does not match the initial 1. Could it be an oddly shaped 2, making the real date 1792?

@lic, that is an interesting coin of Austria that you have there. I checked in my Krause and it has essentially the same info as numista, specifically that there is no 1791 with a letter E mintmark (Karlsburg). For Leopold II, the only date with this mintmark is 1792, while the list of 10 Kreutzer coins issued by Franz II includes 1792-E, 1794-E, 1795-E, 1796-E, and 1797-E. The legend on your coin is pretty clear that it came from Leopold II and I agree that the date seems to be 1791. I'm stumped! I'm going to move this thread over to our world coins section so that we can get some better eyeballs on it and perhaps a member with more knowledge of Austrian numismatics can weigh in. Otherwise, you might want to reach out to an Austria dealer for their thoughts. Added: looks like @seek and I were typing at the same time, but they gave you better input. I think that they are correct. This number two looks a bit like a modern letter Z.

... also being discussed on another forum. Guess is that the 91 has been re-cut/faked over other digits. Which in itself is problematic, since it looks like 88 below the 91, which would be a different type.

Makes me wonder if the mint mark is actually B and then someone modified it to look like a rare mint mark.
