Hello all. I found this 1955 penny while back and my research indicates that this is possibly a major Striking Error. I've seen other images of coins with this error name that look similar to these images.

Any thoughts here? Is something like this worth anything?

Is this the coin you meant to post? I'm seeing a 1947, not 1955.
Coinfrog is correct, this is just damaged. Similar patterns can be created by (de)laminations, but that would just result in lost metal without expanding the coin's diameter and also wouldn't appear on both sides like this. The displaced metal beyond the coin's normal size means that the metal was squeezed out after it was struck.

Looks like it was held in acid, thus altering just that area.

Agree, your coin has post mint damage ( PMD). From what exactly is unknown unless you were there. No premium I'm afraid.
