Do you have any idea what's going on with these surfaces? Coin is straight graded by PCGS at AU50. The surfaces appear almost like a reverse proof or frosted somehow. Under a 10x loupe, coin shows no etching, granular features, or other environmental damage. Is this an issue with the dies? I appreciate any feedback.
First, it's a beautiful coin! I love the geometric motifs, Arabic script (even though I can't read a word of it!) and other details on those larger Morocco types.
Could it just be that the dies weren't highly polished for some reason?
