This quarter caught my eye while emptying my pockets last night. Tonight I am going to rinse it off and study it more in depth but maybe someone will know what it is and how this happened

Looks like a circulation flattening issue. It has been through several types of vending machines, including casinos. (Used before they started using cards) Just a face value coin. Damage doesn't increase the value of a face value coin.
