So I think I'm starting a Buffalo nickel two feather set.

I was looking on ebay and grabbed a 4 coin lot for $9 because it had this 1919 P in it. Would say its VG to F in grade.

Some of the clash marks match the ones on PCGS below the missing feather and above the middle of the buffalo's back. The pebbling texture on around the edges of the reverse isn't environmental damage but actually part of the die.

@shel, that is an interesting coin. I'm wondering if the surface color is accurate in your pics reddish on one side and more yellow on the right or if this was just from your lighting when you took the pics. Thx.

Fantastic cherry pick!

Ron Pope describes multiple abraded dies for the 1919 Buff. At least two separate dies have the third feather completely obliterated.

The die pictured in Abraded Die Varieties has the polishing lines running NW-SE. Your coin is from the other known die. There are quite a few 2 1/2 feather varieties for 1919, but the real 2-feather coins like yours are a lot tougher to find. Good eye.

Your coin has a strong strike, too. Notice the nearly complete rachis on the second feather, strong rachis on the first feather, and complete ribbons. Solid F-15 coin, unless the scratches on the buffalo detail it.

Nice one!

Thanks all. Spence, the coin is definite reddish and yellowish tint to some of the coin, more on the back.

Nice pick! Fun variety to hunt. I recently added a page into one of my Dansco buff albums and am doing exactly that, 2 feather and also 3 1/2 leg varieties. Planning on trying to cherry pick all as well, looks like I'll have competition

F12/15 possibly details due to the reverse scratches.
