This has me confused for a while untill I read the wexler article in abrasion doubling. I'll make sure to remember this so I don't get confused again. Here I small example I found on a 2008D cent.

I was going to ask about it last night but then decided to figure it out for myself. For a while I was going to just call it a plating bubble. It can go with my other Die Deterioration examples:)

Abrasion doubling!
Never heard of it.
Could you give us more complete reference information to the "wexler article"?

I had never heard of it before as well here is the wexler link
http://doubleddie.com/144864.html

Seems several old doubled die listing ended up being abrasion doubling(a form of die polishing issue) at least that's what I took from the article. Not actually doubling nor an error or variety. Though before the polishing there could have been some clash coins of the same year.

@john1, so this is not abrasion doubling? I wonder why the article still exists on wexler. This does not match any sort of doubled die not does it really look like Die Deterioration, though I could be wrong. Interesting that this existed to debunk some doubled dies and then was debunked again and said to be DDD. Thank you very much for that article John1 I had never heard of it before yesterday and my search led me to the wexler article. So I guess this would just be a form of Die Deterioration or a plating bubble then.

Edit: there is many useful and very in depth descriptions on that link, It will take me a while to go through it all, looks like some good reading. I should refer to this website over wexler for some things obviously.

I just found an identical twin to this coin, same year same mint mark. So definitely not a zinc bubble.

I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to. The line above the bowtie? That's the collar, just a part of the design.

Not a plus to the coin. Just die damage seen on the coins.
