I'm new to this, hence the name. I apologize for the poor quality of the photos. I'm trying to figure out if this is a rare coin or just wear and tear.

I feel this is an altered coin. Why? Note the full rim on the reverse. That tells me that the obverse had one also, but was removed from the coin. What is the weight of your coin. Is should be less than 3.11 grams. If the weight is 3.11 then it might be interesting. But a thinned planchet would be weak on both sides of the coin.

Appears to be post-strike damage--most likely not a zinc core cent.

@newbie5673, you can find very inexpensive digital scales accurate to 1/100 gram on Amazon. I think I paid only $20 or so for mine a few years ago.
