@scotty, the first digit in the date has sustained a hit which has "smushed" it to be at an angle with the rest of the date. This happened after the coin was struck and is considered damage. Your cent is only worth face value.

Sorry, it's just common damage and worth 1 cent. Here is another example of something similar. Due to it's shape, the 1 seems extra susceptible to damage.
