So I know it's just a common 1921 Morgan, but I thought I got a good price on it in today's hot ebay auction market or I wouldn't have bid on it ..... $30.19 was the hammer.
I was pretty sure it was a mint state Morgan when I bought it and still think it is, but like always how would you grade it?
Id say this is a good Morgan to practice vamming on, and indeed, 30 bucks +/- is a fair price to me. As to the grade, Id tick it up, but not by much, probably to a MS-62 since photos can seem to play with a coins surface at times, hence the expression 'the coin looks better in hand than by photo'.
Lots of marks/scratches to the cheek, obverse fields have a good number of tic marks and contact marks, Eagles breast looks to have some slight rub as well. I'm with Coinfrog, AU58, MS60 tops, leaning AU
I agree with the average of all of the above comments. Nice luster has survived on the high points. Less than the sharpest of strikes, as can be seen on the Eagle's breast feathers - could be due to a slightly worn die.
It is safe to assume that most 1921 silver dollars saw little, if any circulation.
Suffering from bust half fever. Want to learn how to attribute early half dollars by die variety? Click Here: http://goccf.com/t/434955 Shoot me a PM if you are looking to sell bust halves.
tough call using these photos as the lighting is too much to see the surfaces properly. there are quite a of chatter on the cheek. AU58 or low MS. I think I'm leaning MS on this one.
