just my opinion but I think you can clearly see the difference between the to coins that started this link.there is quit a bite more hook on the 9 in the second pic than the first, also the 0 on the first pic is higher than the 7,on the second pic they are even.thats what I see.now,if it is supposed to be the same coin, there`s no way lithing will change the amount of hook on the 9

Jewellge, you're a good sport about this!
Obviously, we shouldn't expect a photo of pro quality like Chuck's diagnostic pics posted a few pages back.
I've done a few macro coin shots myself, so happy to lend some advice if you need it.

But better lighting, good focus, and shooting from the right angle can. :)

In a small pic like the original, all it takes is a chance highlight and a few stray pixels from compression artifacts to give the impression of a different shape. While there are ways to work around these resolution limitations, people are correct to conclude that better pics would make an ID much more definite.

I'll wait for new pics.

This is with my current equipment, just stretched to the extreme of it's ability and my photographic talent.

Chum in the waters until I get a 'real' camera

Hate to say I could have done this one with the first image and saved all of you the trouble, but I could have. It's a small date, no doubt about it. The shape of the date is just as important as any one device. The 9 has a different shape, as does the 7.

That is the real win in discussions like these. We sometimes fail to consider the number of members/lurkers who read, and learn from, what's posted here. Any question is a good question, because there's always someone who needs to know the answer.
