I have this 1998 penny that I found. There is groves over the whole head side and also on the back. I didn't clean this, its always been shinny and been sitting in my collection for over a decade. I cant find anything about this kind of 'error' or damage. Is this worth face value or did I find something good?

Well the differences in color can be staining on the coin on certain areas of the plating. We often see the color differences on coins that have been exposed in cup holders in cars, very small tiny freckles are sneeze droplets, darker colors are often been in touch with body fluids, finger prints from salt from perspiration can alter coins surfaces.

Well the differences in texture on your coin can be from something on the planchet before it was plated, trapping zinc dust under the plating. Thus the appearance of lines on the surface of the plating.

Above ONE CENT, there appears to be die scratches from a polishing of the die. As the die is used, these will flatten. The ones inside of the device last a lot longer than the ones in the fields.

The darker areas could either be grease residue on the coin or something spilled on to the coin making it sticky. Thus the fine dirt and grime at sticking to those areas. The rim on the right side on the obverse looks like damage on the rim/edge area. But nothing for a premium for this coin. Just a spender. Normal Close AM on reverse.

The motto devices look thinner than normal from a die polishing. Still just a spender. That is what I see on your coin.

I don't see anything that would classed as an error, just damage.
Value 1 cent.

Yes, I agree, no error here. Could be die polishing lines or some sort of damage. Maybe a fingerprint across the reverse? No eye appeal to this cent I'm afraid.
