Is this a fake? The double dots between NOV and ARG on the obverse seem to be angled in the wrong direction.

There is a sufficient number of high quality fakes around of English and European crown sized silver to provide the reason for me to find an independent way (other than myself) to know that this coin is genuine.

To my eyes, the general appearance certainly suggests that it is OK, but I don't know enough to comment on the dots.

Investigation of fake reports would be very helpful in this case.

Submitting this coin for slabbing would be worthwhile. Besides getting authentication if OK, you would also get an independent grade opinion and some protection as a bonus

Fortunately for myself, I have access to the opinion of a specialist in European Crown sized silver, and so if this coin were mine, I would take it to him.

I've found coins from certified and other reliable coin sellers and the dots are the same.
Is your coin picture copied from MA-Shops?

Is there a website that shows the markers of a coin you should pay attention to in order to determine whether or not it is a fake? Or perhaps a database that shows real vs. fake next to each other?

Best to learn/recognize what a genuine coin looks like vs. what tips off a fake.

This piece presents as genuine.

FWIW, the few fakes I've seen of Dutch silver ducats aren't very good.

Yes, definitely.
As part of the learning curve I'm planning to go to the International Numismatic Convention in NYC in January. I hope I will be able to see lots of coins up close, including Dutch ducats and ducatons.

Decided to bite the bullet and bought the coin about a week ago. Got it in the mailbox today.
The coin looks very good to me. I'm happy with the purchase.
