It is damage of some sort. It didn't look like that when it was struck.

I agree, post mint damage. Looks like a die chip on the 5 however. Please always show us the entire coin, both sides. Thanks.

@coin, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes damage to the mintmark and a small die chip on the date.

Thank y'all very much. I have some others I want your opinion on and I'll start sending both sides of the entire coin. Bear with me until I get a better understanding of what a minting error is or isn't. Thanks again.

We here on CCF do not encourage that. Use the memory card on the scope and then insert it into a computer. From there post the photo to CCF. The better the photo you post the better we can help you.
