Is this an RPM? I have checked Wexler, Variety Vista and Copper Coins and I cannot find a listing. I know the coin is beat-up, but the MM does not look that beat up to me, thanks in advance.

Hey gsp. I know as bad as I want to say this is an RPM... it's unfortunately not. After 45 years in circulation, this guy took an absolutely inappropriate hit and displaced the mint mark to what you are seeing. It looks like a D on top of a D for sure. Look at the shape and distortion of the "top" D and you can see that is is completely out of shape which would not be in line with a mm punch. If it was an RPM then both D's would pretty much look the same and you would see much more defined shapes, possible serif notches and lines on the D of the mm. Also, EXCELLENT pics by the way!!! Hope this helps.

I agree. And if you go to varietyvista.com, you can find listings and pics for every DDO and every RPM by denomination, date and mint mark.

Just a beat up coin. Why is it not a RPM? On a RPM you need to see evidence to two or more punches with the mintmark punch. This will enlarge the size of the mintmark:

Note on this one it is a D/D/D/D S/S/N. Also the mintmark is enlarged. On your coin if the areas you looking at were bruises, You would recognize them. But these bruises are incuse marks into the normal mintmark. You can have an enlarged mintmark that is not a RPM, as you don't see the different punches, but the mintmark is enlarged:

Note it is enlarged, but no evidence of multiple punches.
