This came up at auction without the error listed, but it was pretty obvious. But was surprised to win it for less than twenty bucks. I'm thinking the folks looking for a quite nice 1914-S didn't want a problem coin, and the lamination collectors didn't want to pay that much for a common error. But It's a nice lam on a low mintage coin in decent condition so I am happy to have picked it up.

It is also interesting in that it has both the tire tread style and platy style delamination in essentially the same place.

Certainly a great lam, and a 1914-S too!

I like your use of "tire tread" style lamination to describe this one. Very descriptive.

I would have grabbed it--love distinct lamination issues on otherwise highly desirable coins.

Thanks folks for the kind words! It's always nice to run across a solid error on one of the better dates.

Nice find TB. Being right between the error and rare coin markets can make for some nice finds.
