I believe it's a die chip but looks like a little "D".

It looks like a depression that would have been caused by a very small strike through a piece of something.

If it is raised it would be the result of a die chip.

The picture is like one of those optical illusions. If you stare at it one way it looks like a depression, if you stare at it a little longer, it looks raised:-)
