I have a half dollar Denver mint which does not have a date, but signs of wear where the date should be, has someone just ground it off or is it a known mint error.
If it has just been removed ....why
Thanks

@kev, first welcome to CCF. Second, to help determine whether your coin is damaged or has an error such as being Struck Through Grease, we are going to need a couple pictures of your coin. Here is a link to the tutorial:

I look forward to seeing what you have there.

I agree that the date has been removed and the coin is hardly cleaned. All mistreatment that occurred post mint.

Thank you so much for your very fast response, I thought the same but wondered if ever seen before and why someone would bother.
Thanks again. :-)

With the coin altered, it is just a silver melt coin now. My guess? Possible 1960-63 (but leaning towards 1960 with what is still legible) But a cash in coin for melt if you need the money.

I agree, intentional defacing, just post mint damage.
