Great pics that show us exactly what you are seeing. I agree that those gouges are likely from contact with the reeded edge of another coin.

Well normally that pattern of damage occurs when the edge of one coin hits against the flat field of another. These marks should not be raised in their entirety though.

These are contact marks. You'll see them on a lot of coins.

PSD (post strike damage) most likely happened at the mint while it laid in the giant collection bag.

Nice follow-up images.

IMHO, what they are showing us is that the areas in question are incuse (recessed) into the coin surface.
Usually, incuse means PSD because anomalies to the die would be raised.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
