I have a nickel that has been bugging me for a while now, there seems to be an extra claw, right above the normal one on the back claw, as well as doubling on the left top side of the island and right side of the log(goes against MD as the doubling is in all different directions) the entire beavers face looks like very heavy MD as well but just the diectiong of the doubling is confusing to me. Unless it's like MD DDD and possibly DD as well.

I can post pictures (shots of a screen) tonight if there is a know doubled die of if you are just curious e about it. The left side of the island looks the most like it has a doubled die.

The claw extra claw and MD beavers face are on coins and Canada along with a die shift on the island. Maybe it is all combined on one coin, nothing about the right side of the log though. I think I may have to post some pictures that I was trying to avoid.

No extra claw for 1974 that I know about, from the sounds of it you have Die Deterioration if it is in all sorts of directions like you say.

Photos would be needed, but the likelyhood is low, there is a point on the log that can sometimes looks look a claw when deterioration is heavy enough.

I think your right even without photos. The island is what was throwing me off the most.

Sorry for the poor photos. I do believe it is DDD and the other examples online are just not as extreme.

Yes this is just deterioration, you have to keep in mind when a die deteriorates over time all the details that are sunken into the working die will start to widen in an outward motion from center outward to the rim. This is why you see it around the beaver, the log etc.

This is where I get the term "bubble letters" when deterioration affects the date or legends, the deterioration will quite literally look bubbly, like most bubble letters.
