Purchased from a dealer friend of mine. Thought I'd share. You can see a dropped Y in between the second and third column from the left.

That is not a dropped Y. It is part of a die clash. Very nice find. Most of the time they are not that clear.

1983-LMC---Dropped-

It is raised from the coin. It it were a Dropped Y it would be recessed into the coin.

I just re-checked the image and wondered about that. Nice find then. I'm glad you responded quickly. The discussions on coppercoins might interest you then. Check out the links provided.

Thanks for doing that coop! Looking at your overlays, it's strange that it's almost the same place as the die clash. Anyway, thanks again.

Probably fell off after the last strike and embedded in the next one. This type of error is rarer than a clash as probably the debrie stayed with that coin and fell off later. The debrie would be too soft to damage the die and that coin would be the only one that would have it. Not to be confused with a garage job as only one letter is affected. Not like this:

They are very collectible and yes, I would keep all you find. I have 2 Lincoln "dropped letter" and 1 Idaho State Quarter. You don't see them very often.

John1: if they are like the garage squashed ones, toss back. The individual letter ones are the good ones.

It's a clash mark, not a dropped letter. A clash mark will also be incuse. This is a clash from the last letter of LIBERTY. Next to it you can see the clash mark from the back of Lincoln's coat.

The B on Lincoln's head is most likely a light contact mark from another coin. One should always be wary of alleged dropped letters that appear on the high points of the design.

Thanks for the input Mike. Well, I didn't pay much for it so I made out okay.
