I recently submitted a 1954 Lincoln to PCGS. This coin from an original roll had zero marks? looked closely for bag marks and didn't see one. I may have seen 1 hairline (maybe). I viewed the coin indoors, then outdoors, I used a loupe then a digital microscope, I swirled the thing round and round, I checked the face and bust for marks, I checked the hair, the rim the wheat stalks, the field on each side. I am wondering if the one mistake I made was putting a minimum grade of 66. The coin in 67 according to PCGS is 21,000. Is it possible that the graders saw 66 as minimum and thought okay 66 it is. After all they don't have a lot of time to make decisions since time is money. Have any of you experienced the scenario I described? I would take a 66+ so I may do a reconsideration and ask for a plus upgrade

Marks are not the be all end all of grading. LWC's need exemplary luster and a very strong strike to attain a 67RD grade. And may be more of an inhibiting factor than marks. You are unlikely to get a plus designation on reconsideration. Maybe post the trueview if you opted for the service?

Without large, sharp pics it's difficult to answer.

At this point it's submitted if you truly think it's under graded submit it to CAC, if they agree you'll get a gold bean which according to the market is almost the same as a 67. Submitting for a cac is cheaper than regrading.

Personally, I would not bother doing anything. At 66 at least the coin is worth more than the grading fees. You keep spending money on it and you'll quickly be in the hole.

I received two wheats back recently, and honestly, the grades are out of whack. I received two coins back both were 6's, and 1957D and 1949 S FS-101, each should have been a 5, tops. I still don't know why I sent the 57D, it has lamination peel on the forehead, a broken die on the 5, chatter on the jaw, save one mark a completely intact observe field, and the 49S, has junk on the nose and what looks like oxidation on the planchet giving a woody appearance, but makes the coin look dirty. My fellow local collectors are also getting grades all over the place, especially with toners---Artificial many times. Also, took me 9 weeks to get em, submitted at a PCGS Regent event in July through a local dealer.
