I hope you'll indulge me for posting these videos, as they're not strictly speaking about Roman coins, but are nonetheless wonderfully informative for placing them, and the emperors they depict, in their historical context.

Quite fascinating! How did the author decide on the hair colour and skin tone of the emperors?

There are surviving sources for this information, such as De vita Caesarum written by Suetonius, and the later Historia Augusta, but whether these particularly were consulted for this project I cannot say.

Some of these reconstructions do seem to be a bit at variance with such descriptions. For example, Tiberius was said to have had facial liver spots, and Caligula reportedly was balding prematurely. Nero's hair is noted as being blonde and his eyes blue. I don't see these characteristics shown in those three cases.

Of course, there's also a complication arising from the strong likelihood that the sculptures on which these reconstructions are based would almost certainly have been flattering and idealized ones that glossed over any flaws.

The reconstructions, and especially the bit of animation, are a bit freaky. It is almost like I took a time machine back to see them .I suppose others could do it too (not me) and maybe get something a bit different.
