Please explain. I don't understand the BIG difference between what PCGS grading and pricing says a coin is worth and what a coin in like condition sells for on ebay. For example I recently purchased a 1935 P Buffalo nickel listed as AU in an ebay auction with starting price of $2.25 + shipping $1.00. Well no one else bid it up so I got it for $2.25 + shipping. When I received the coin in the mail and used the PCGS Photograde Online examples and the PCGS Buffalo nickel Price guide it came out to be a MS65 Valued at $125 to $150 dollars? Did I just get lucky or is the PCGS Value system way wrong. What price guide and grading system should I be using. I see these big differences all the time on ebay sell price VS PCGS but not usually this huge of a difference.

The prices in the PCGS price guide are estimates for PCGS graded coins. Like every other guide, their values may or may not be accurate. The best guide for current values is ebay and other online auction sold prices.

The PCGS price guide is mainly meant for PCGS graded coins, raw coins usually sell at a significant discount to the guide. I'm not entirely certain what you mean by "it came out to be MS-65" but if you tried reselling it on ebay you cant advertise it that way without actually getting it graded. The best you can do is sell it as uncirculated. I would expect it to probably sell for $20 or so assuming it is actually uncirculated.

If it was listed as an AU coin on ebay, there's a strong possibility that it's not mint state, and almost certainly not MS-65. Good photos of the coin posted here could help with assessing the grade.

Your comparing apples to oranges. You say you bought a raw coin of off ebay that was listed as AU which means it has been circulated. Then you compare this to a certified uncirculated coin in MS65 condition. A certified coin, especially a MS one, will nearly always be worth more. As stated earlier, please show a photo of both sides so someone can give you a more accurate grade of your coin.

Pictures didn't come out real good with cell phone. Liberty came out blurry on obverse but in reality it's perfect. Reverse picture came out better. So what would you grade this coin as? and about value. ebay seller said AU. Appreciate it. $2.25 + $1.00 shipping. total $3.25 If using the PCGS Photo Grading System where would you put it? https://www.PCGS.com/photograde/#/Buffalo/Grades

@Larry Gosnell, from what I can tell it's easily AU. You should post it in a separate thread in the grading section for proper attention. I'd say AU58 but I am brand new to USA grading. The photos on PCGS make it fairly easy.

I see wear on the horn, Native American's hair and the high points of the bison. This is not an MS65 coin. It's AU, I would probably say AU 55-58, need better pictures to confirm.

I think the seller had it right at AU. Worth more than $3.25 but nowhere near MS value.

Ok so lets say it's high AU condition, say AU58. PCGS Value is $22 to $25 but CoinManage value is $15. So would the CoinManage value be more realistic on all coins in a person's collection instead of going by PCGS values and pricing? I use basic USA CoinManage 2021 for my database.

Is there no standard in the Coin Collecting Hobby for value of a particular grade besides what coins sell for on ebay? I understand, I guess that PCGS Values are for PCGS Graded coins so you can't go by that. I'm not real sure why but ok, I'm good with that. Coins don't sell for PCGS Values unless they are graded by PCGS. What do you guys go by? Just trying to learn and put a fair market value on my coins. CoinManage values ok to go by? They seem to be updated every few years or so.
