I have a similar question as @opuscoin ( http://goccf.com/t/388300 ) but then related to buying coins in general: is there a time period in the year where buying coins online and/or from LCS is cheaper?
According to this guy, the best time to sell (and therefore the worst time to buy) is during the FUN show in January and the ANA summer show in July/August: https://coinweek.com/coins/coin-col...-your-coins/
You would think that many people would be dead broke in January because of the (expensive) Holidays and don't have much money left to buy coins at the FUN show. But then again, if the typical coin collector saves money to spend at those shows, then of course the theory of being "dead broke" doesn't hold.

When an LCS owner buys in inventory, he may have it for more than 6 months. That means what he sells for, will be not really related to seasonal conditions, but much more related to his own market environment.

There are all sorts of buyers. I suspect that coin buying in particular is not so much related to their holidays, but more related in general to whatever numismatic opportunity that may arise. That is my experience, and what I perceive with other collectors at coin shows.

I don't think that coin buying and selling on ebay is seasonally related. Packaged coins are shipped irrespective of seasonal weather conditions.

A conversation with an LCS owner perhaps would give a more accurate answer to this question.

There are seasonal trends in what people buy and sell at the LCS. In december there are definitely more people looking for gifts, but probably mint products and common items. In January people may be selling stuff to pay for Xmas expenses, but probably not decades old collections.

One LCS in Ottawa for years had an end of the year open-house and sale, but not last year due to Covid.

I suppose there also is a difference in business cycles between high grade and common coins.
I surmise, high grade coins are "always" in demand and will "never" go on sale, whereas common coins might.
On top of that, the melt value of silver coins will always provide a floor for the selling price.

There could be cycles, but I can't seem to guess. Since I mostly buy bullion coins, summer seems to be when spot is down.

For the most part, market seems to be unpredictable.

Example: I tried to sell my Type-1 4 Coin AGE Proof Set at WFOM a couple months ago. Couldn't find 1 buyer because of the Type 2 hype. Listed all the coins separately on the Bay and someone bought the 1 oz at a premium (my guess, people are buying bullion because of the inflation news).
