Hey there,
I was hoping someone could tell me about this. Is this a clip error? Thanks!

@ros, first welcome to CCF. Second, while it could be a ragged clip, it seems much more likely to be damage. As the frog notes, an overall image of each side should help us to confirm.

Looks like zinc rot. If it was a ragged clip, there would be no zinc showing.
It is considered damage with no added value.

If it were zinc rot, (and I'm saying that it is not rot), that is an extreme example of it. And if so why only that section of the coin and not any other place? I think that rot is part of the equation,

I think that a chunk of the coin was broken off first somehow AFTER it left the striking chamber/mint.

Thank you for the opinions so far! If I have another coin I have questions about do I make a new topic?

Yes please. Best practice is to start a new thread for each new coin. Thx!

This is what zinc cents that you would find metal detecting look like. Just severe zinc rot from exposure to the elements.

I lean toward some sort of post-mint damage.

Looks like someone took a bite of it! Not a clip, just post mint damage.

Probably used to pry something open. Broke of edge of the coin. (Never a good sign to see zinc as the expiration of the coin is sooner than a normal plated coin)
