Thanks for the input @Coinfrog, think this would grade fine then?

I think it's very close to uncirculated. The iridescence in your pics of the obverse suggests it may have been cleaned, but that might be a lighting issue.

Can't speak much for the S, other than the possibility of a Grease Fill as Coinfrog mentioned. As for the grade, AU Details, certainly looks to have had an old cleaning. Color and reflectivity do not look correct, at least from these images.

Thanks for the comments! I'll take some pics with different lighting, it's probably the direct sunlight

It has the look of a counterfeit. After studying the pictures, the only suspicious element is the raised dot between stars 4 and 5. But I could be wrong, and it may just me the color. It has clash marks and the double serif on the C in CENT as well, which is normal. Regarding the S, I say PMD. Probably somebody's science experiment, but hard to say by solely looking at these photos.

I'm seeing what looks like PMD, too. And, I'm guessing that the culprit's surname was TATE.

Is the broken "L" in Liberty something seen in this series?

Not a fan of the new pics. These do not suggest naturally toned, evenly brown/red original surfaces. If genuine (?), then badly cleaned and recolored.

Bummer, could be my phone camera I suppose. Might still send for grading in the future, thanks for the effort

Quote: Is the broken "L" in Liberty something seen in this series? Yes that is normal. There was only 1 die used on the obverse, two different dies for the reverse, making two varieties Cohen 1 & 2 the difference on the reverse is the space between the "S" and "T" in STATES. This one having a filled/clogged die on the "S" makes it a tough call without another known one next to it, but it looks like the wider spacing from my best guess. If that is correct then it's a C-1 variety. Also the C1 generally shows the multiple clash marks on the obverse which this one also has. I'd give it an EAC grade of EF35/40 possible old cleaning. TPG grade would likely come back as EF45 IMO.
