Not sure about this but while searching for RPM's I found this 1951 cent which appears to be a D over S. I can't find a listing for any such OMM so perhaps it is a die gouge but it sure looks like an S to me. Any thoughts?

After some further research I found that there is a 1951 D over S listed on Varietyvista. FS 511 doesn't look like this and neither does FS 512. I thought that maybe I discovered a new variety. Then I decided to soak the coin in an acetone bath and against my better judgement I poked inside the mint mark with a toothpick and put it back under the microscope. Turns out to be a case of things not being what they appeared to be. Sorry for wasting your time!

Not a waste of time, a learning experience. My first thought was crude inside the MM.

Just cleaning out the belly button. Keep in mind that the gunk that collects on cents can contain sand. Sand can scratch a coin. So try using a green throne. It will be less able to push the sand into the surface of the coin.
