@t-rex, first welcome to CCF. Second, the color of this quarter makes me think that it was buried for a while. Between that, mint tolerances, and the circulation wear, the weight seems pretty much fine I think.

I agree with Spence.

It turned brown, maybe from an environment that tended to leach nickel from the surface. It then got circulated a lot more and worn down into the unaffected part of the clad layers at the high points in the design, giving a bit of circulation cameo effect. Between obvious corrosion, heavy wear, and mint tolerances, a few tenths of a gram low would be expected.

In time the gray color will return. But it will take some time for that to happen. On circulation it speeds up the process on the raised devices. On the fields they will take the longest to remove the residue from being homeless for a time. But it was a metal detector find and then spent. Just a spender unless you want to see the progress for yourself.
