I have an 1884 Morgan dollar I picked up at a show amongst a ton of other coins. Was wondering if anyone knew who graded it because I cannot find it anywhere thru any registry numbers. Black matting, serial number starts with BA17-. Cant upload photo till later *** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

to the CCF Without a photo no one will be able to help you. Sounds like it may be a third tier grader.

It sounds like a non legitimate grading company. Most basement grading companies don't have catagorized serial numbers that are recorded.
But I agree with others, pictures are essential.

It's the infamous black holder with the B on it. The company is Bradford Exchange, and the company is not reputable nor reliable.

@jacrispies, do you think I should pop it out of its case and test it by weight etc in case the coin is fake?

As far as I know, this company puts genuine coins in their own plastic slabs to make them have more appeal, thus selling then for a higher retail price. I don't think authenticity should be a problem, as the coin looks to be genuine and in a low mint state. This should be a simple two piece case that can be easily taken apart through a seam on the edge.

awesome, I am super stoked I stumbled across this. Thank you for helping. I have thousands of coins I want to get opinions on, so I am sure you will see me a bunch. I collected for years, went broke, stopped and am now getting back into it like crazy both with my old collection from my youth and now my new stuff from being older. Thank you again for responding and helping

That isn't an actual company as far as I know, the slab shell is a generic shell, I forget the name of the company that makes the shells but it does start with a B. It isn't even a basement grading service because the coin isn't graded.

@bar, as noted above, Bradford Exchange is not thought highly of here. If you use the search box in the upper lefthand corner of your screen with the keywords BRADFORD EXCHANGE, you will find many previous threads. Here are links to a couple to get you started: http://goccf.com/t/338621http://goccf.com/t/182773
