Quote: Define "old" For me "old copper" is limited to US Mint produced Half Cent, large cent and Two Cent Pieces. By that definition I have a bit over 100. I didn't include pre-colonials and colonials although other collectors could certainly include them.

to the CCF! Checking my database, I presently have as follows .... Large Cents - 1,299 Half Cents - 123 Two Cents - 95 Indian cents - 301 All of the above coppers are counterstamped, akin to my avatar, being 1,818 pieces. I didn't count the hundreds of early tokens, Colonials, Hard Times, Civil War, etc. Also, I don't maintain a count on the unstamped coppers.

Not enough, until we add in 2 cent pieces, then just about enough. I'm sitting on somewhere north of 2000 Two Cent Pieces I think. Only a handful of EAC coinage. Now in books it's the opposite, as I'm well over a fifth of my numismatic library is on early coppers. There are around 3000 volumes in it according to my database.

It depends on what you mean by copper.....bronze too? I don't have any 2 cent pieces or Half Cents to count. I have 3 or 4 Flowing Hair Liberty cents, and no other large cents. I have lots and lots of small cents. I have far more big French coppers than US. I found that I can get a really nice 1790's French copper coin for the price of a really bad 1790's US copper coin. In the period of the French Revolution these coins really stretched the definition of copper....

Lets see... my database says I have: Half Cents: 2 Large cents: 4 Pre-Lincoln small cents: 12 Two Cents: 2 I also own two hard times tokens, and one Virginia 1773 halfpenny. As I'm in Australia, all of these coins are of course part of my "world coins" collection.
