There is no way for that to happen during the striking of the coin.
Just a badly damaged cent. Probably road kill.

That's what is left of a Lincoln Shield cent after it spent some time in a parking lot. That coin has been run over dozens of times and has the scars to prove it. Sorry, it's not an error coin.
