If you've never seen one of these, now you have. They are made from an original half dollar cut into three parts. First, there is a deep, thin groove cut into the edge, and then the coin is cut using a wavy cut. Then, apparently, you inserted a small rubber band into the groove, and the coin would fold up but stay together. This one I just picked up at a coin show, but I also have one with the rubber band still working. I always assumed it was for a magic trick, but never did any research to see if it could be figured out as to when they were made and by whom. 1943 Walking Liberty half dollar novelty - tri-fold

There is (was?) a gentleman on this forum who used to sell modern Walkers that he had patiently cut into 8 piece (as I recall) jigsaw puzzles. They were remarkable little works of art.

Yeah Coinfrog. Who was that? I have someone that one of those would make an awesome Christmas gift for.

I honestly don't remember. I bought one for my grandson as a gift a couple of years ago - I was so impressed. Let me go back into my e-mail file and see if I saved any info.

I'm also interested in one, how much do these fetch?

I've been searching The Forum for who that was/is. I'm coming up empty. But there are all sorts of coin puzzles on Etsy. I'd much rather give my money to a Forum member. There are teeny tiny 15 piece Australian penny puzzles even. https://www.ebay.com/itm/US-SILVER-...200889095149

Sorry, no luck. The great thing about this puzzle was that the pieces were large enough that you could use your fingers to solve it in a comparatively short period of time. If you Google "Novelty Coin Jigsaw Puzzles" you'll find ones that require tweezers and a magnifying glass.
Perhaps the creator of these wonderful things will read this thread.

Not to hijack this thread, but I believe that you are talking about our own @nohope587. Here is a link to a thread on my purchase of this Morgan dollar puzzle. I love mine and very highly recommend this for Christmas (assuming he is still making them). http://goccf.com/t/303667Relating the the coin originally pictured in this thread, yes it is a coin used by magicians and is known as a "folding coin". I believe that the rim groove is for a rubber band and the folding effect is to move this coin through a constriction, such as the mouth of a bottle. Here is a link to one seller of these items: https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/folding-coins/

That first link shows something very similar to the one I bought.

Thanks! Interesting about the puzzle coins, and really cool to see that someone is still making these folding coins today. And I learned about them.
