Hi,

I have two Mughal and one Indian rupee coins for identification. I strongly suspect the first two were minted under Akbar's reign, but I wanted to know the Mint and the month mentioned on the coin. The third coin is from the 19th century and I can't find a date/ruler for it.

The coins were obtained from an estate auction, and were listed among dozens of coin lots. I think they're genuine but I can't be sure. I did a specific gravity test on the coins and the first two came up as almost pure silver. The third coin however is probably around 70%.

Thank you,

11.34g, 14.8mm.

First one has a date of Ilahi 44, and looks like month Di. Here for comparison are the Persian month names.

Second one has a date of Ilahi 45, and I'm not able to determine a month. Also I can't tell mints or KM numbers. Hopefully another of our members can help fill in those.

The third coin looks like a rupee from Mewar

Swarup Singh, 1842-1890, KM Y#5

Not an exact match for the coin in Zeno, but could be a slight variation. What does the second side of the third coin look like?

As for nomenclature, these are all Indian rupees. The first two were issued under the Mughals, the third by Mewar state.

Thank you Seeker55, that was most helpful.

Akbar's reign started in 1556, so would that be considered year 0 or 1? Ilahi 44 would be 1600 or 1601CE.

I had quite a bit of trouble identifying these coins, as often the script runs off the edges of the coin.

The Mewar coin has the same pattern on both sides, rotated left by about 45 degrees, so that's why I didn't post the photo.

Thank you,

First one is Akbar Jalala type square rupee. Ilahi 44, Bahman month. Mint unclear.

Second square Jalala rupee is of Ilahi 45, Farwardin month. Mint either Tatta or Patna.

The third one possibly is Mewar, but needs confirmation.
