Obviously the coin has seen a lot of circulation, but there are missing mouth and eye/nose features. What's going on here?

Overpolished Die. You can see it on the neck as well.

Nice find! I once found one that had extremely over-polished features, leaving Lincoln considerably skinnier. I wrote on the flip "skinny Lincoln".

Thanks for the help JimmyD and CoinHunter4. Over-polished die was my second guess. I'm putting it in my collection and trying to think of a good name for it...maybe "Toothless Lincoln"?

1981 Abe doesn't look well when compared to 1965 Abe. Looks like a skeleton.

The over polishing can get sever. Which recently I figure it was probably a polishing to remove Feeder Finger Damage from the die. (Walk ling enough in the same paths, you find the road sinking. Thus when a new thought comes forward, other things seem more clear)
