I just got my ANACS sixpenses in the mail and I got back 6 of these NZ coins back as detailed coins. I got a stronger loup on them and the surfaces do have scratch marks on the detailed coins. I'll get images up on them. But I also got back from ANACS 5 straight grades. At least one of these straight grades as some small lines.

These coins are about the size of Mercury dimes and I difinetely see routely hairline patterns on Merc Planchs all the time.

Lines on a coin can often be the result of die polishing or improper cleaning. If die polishing, the lines will be raised, if caused by cleaning, the lines will be seen as grooves cut into the coin's surface.

Close inspection to determine which is the cause is often necessary for non-expert eyes. Winged Liberty ("Mercury") dimes are known with die polishing marks.
