Good Day All I inherited a briefcase of U S coins from my Grand Dad. He used to travel to the United States every year for business and bring back coins in his pocket change. All the coins I have I am assuming that they nwould have only circulated for the year that they were minted. Looking at them some look like they have never circulated. He did have a few coins that came out of his "ERROR COINS" container, I am not sure how he came into possesion of these ones. I need some help in trying to figure this very narly looking Jefferson Coin out. The yellow resin stuff is for me is the mystery. Thanking All in advance for helping me figure this coin out.

At first glace, it appears some 'crud' has accumulated on the coin. If possible, soak the coin in pure acetone for a day or two and see what happens.

Agreed, a good soaking can't hurt. It almost looks like a glob of road tar got smashed onto it.

. Looks like a substance of some kind on the coin to me. John1

looks like something on th coins. If it is a stuck through removing what is retained would lower the value. That being said I'm thinking something in on the coin rather then being struck through. If your not positive then I definitely agree with an acetone bath.

Back in the day, some people would glue a string or thin wire to a coin in order to put into a coin slot to make a purchase and then retrieve the coin. Your coin might have been one of those.

It looks like the nickel was glued to something and some of what it was glued to is stuck in the glue.

I agree, it's something on the surface rather than struck-through, so not an error coin, just post mint damage. to the CCF!

Keep in mind that acetone does not remove everything, so even after the acetone if the "stuff" is still there it is still not a struck through. John1
