Found this in a roll of 1941 cents, looking for a DDO. No DDOs, but I did find this. Ugly and covered in spots and corrosion, but I found the error to be interesting so I decided to post it. Weighs 2.8 grams, and has obvious weakness on both the obverse and reverse. I thought 2.8 might be within mint tolerance, but I couldn't think of any error that would be like this besides a rolled thin planchet.

Hmm could be, but I think it is a light weight Grease filled set of dies on this one.
Can you post up a n image of the edge of the coin along with another of the correct weight?

I like it. Face being flat makes me think Grease Filled Die as well. But I'm sure others will let us know. All my lite weight ones have only had weakness on one side.

Guessing this is a Greaser within Weight Tolerance given the wear.

I would disagree with the grease strike opinion. On the obverse and a little on the reverse, the rims are also affected by the weakness which leads me to believe this is indeed a rolled thin planchet. A strike through grease would not make the rims weaker.

Bottom coin is the coin in question. Top coin is a normal 3.0 Wheat cent.

Coin on the right is the coin in question. Coin on left is the same 3.0 Cent from the previous picture.

2.8 is not in tolerance, unless you're using new math. Thin planchet. 3.1-.13=2.97 .3 would be a lot of wear.

What does concern me is the crimp look on the outside edge of the coin. That usually denotes a flattening of the coin post strike. But I would save it for now.

Thin rolled planchet. But boy that coin has a case of the speckles and I don't think there's a medicine out there to cure that one. Still overall a nice error coin.

Thanks TB! I agree this coin is long gone, but figured the error would be a fun discussion on the forum. Thanks for checking it out!
