This would be a really nice coin if only that big flake had come off. I'm sure there is a beautiful texture under there, but can't see it. It is always tempting to slide a sheet of mylar under the flake and see if it will just pop off. It would turn the coin from a two dollar at best lam to a good-looking piece with both parts. But I've seen this tried many times before, and you always end up with a nasty-looking bent out bit where it is still attached but finally shears off. 1955-S Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - retained lamination   |

Yeah, that would've been a real nice one if it had already peeled off. I haven't attempted to "encourage" a LAM to peel out of fear for exactly what you described as a Bent out bit. Never the less, a very nice LAM and a good size too! Nice find!

Very cool find! I'm with ya, looks like a strong and thick hinge point in between the D and W, down into Abe's head. Might be different if it thinned out on that end too.

To me it looks like the lower area of the lamination moved a bit Not the spread in height of the IN area? Taller than normal should be.

Thanks folks! There have been a lot of minor lams in the set I am just finishing up, but I think this was only the third or fourth strong enough to be worth pulling. They do seem to just be more common in some collections than others, but can't explain why.

Now that one is pretty good size and looks like a bird wing. (Not quite a bat wing!)
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
