On my 1973 D penny the D seems to have another mint mark inside the D, is this a sort of error? Thanks for your help.

You can look up the year and mint on Variety Vista and see if anything matches.

. Does not look like a RPM to me.Maybe a slightly damaged mint mark punch?

It also could be a small amount of grease got into the MM area and not all cleaned out before being put back into operation.

to the CCF

Does not look repunched but even if it was a repunched mm, it would not be called an error,
it would be a variety as all coins produced from that die would be the same.

Probably an issue beginning with a damaged mintmark punch.
