While doing my evening searches Tuesday night, I returned to "My ebay" to make a note on a coin I had just entered on my watch list. There was that %#*&^ beta screen again. It has been popping up intermitently since Oct/Nov and I always searched on the page for where they hid the "opt out" button so I could send this abomination back to where it came. I am not inflexible ... I am able to adapt to changes, but this program hangs up my machine and omits one of my most coveted features ... the ability to add personal notes. Well folks, the "opt out" button is gone and will not return. The Beta is now the only My ebay you get. I clicked over on ebay announcements and discussion boards to learn why this has been shoved down my throat. There I found an announcement that set Jan 20th as the changeover date and that 80% of users preferred the beta. With only the limitations I've addressed I can't imagine that many prefer it. What I believe is folks finally gave up searching for the "opt out" button or didn't know it was there and just succumbed to ebay's will. Discussions on other forums are running about 95% against. I predict ebay has taken the final step to launch themselves into the abyss.

Yes, I noticed it too. Everytime, I opted out of the beta because I didn't like the set up. This last time, however, I couldn't opt out of it. I guess we're stuck with it!

Bobby you're very helpful and supportive this morning. I did notice someone mentioned if you logged on through EBay-UK you could still get the old version. I haven't tried this yet, but may have to give it a shot.

SeatedNut: The add note feature is still there. If you have an auction being watched, go to the right where it says "bid now" - let the scroll down appear. near the bottom of those options is "add note"

I haven't really noticed the changes in My ebay, mainly because I don't use most of the features. I couldn't stand the way the new coin search worked & have always opted out of that. I guess it doesn't make any difference to me because I am not going to sign up for Paypal, & without that I'm not supposed to be able to buy anything anyway.

It is my understanding that it will be the norm very soon. It is a bit odd at first, but it works.

I "opted out" a few times and then accepted it a couple months ago. Once you get use to it, it's okay. Maybe not an improvement but there are some options that I use like changing banner colors and removing areas I don't use much.
All in all, it's pretty decent. Give it a chance........

Quote: I have about 35 favorite searches, they screwed that up too. Yep. The old url for search was through the subdomain search.ebay.com the new one is shop.ebay.com. I just got done revamping all our sites to prepare. Normally the old one should automagically forward to the new, but as they tinker with it sometimes it doesn't. Also, sometimes it does but it ends up slightly different. For example, you may have sorted by ending first but when it forwards, it sorts by best match. I have tried to get an answer from ebay backend people on how long the forward will last once the old is completely abandoned, but can't get a straight answer.

Well none of us like change to something we use so much. If were stuck with it, fine I guess. Just tweak it as much as you can right away to make it the way you like and after time you will get used to it and it wont be that bad :)

I hear several folks saying once you get used to it, all will be fine. Am I the only one who is experiencing some significant system hangs when they move between screens or even try to scroll the page? There's a lot of activity going on behind the scenes there and it has me a bit concerned. "Big Brother" paranoia I guess. Those folks already know more about me financially than I am comfortable sharing.

I *believe* that what they've done is effectively offload a bunch of the page generation load on to the user's browser. Dave, what browser and version are you using? Have you tried using other browsers? How old is your computer?
You may want to update your web browser, and also your version of Java, and see if that helps. If not, try it out on another computer and see if you still experience problems.
Going to the next page of search results is faster on my six-month-old home computer than on my three-year-old work computer, even though my work internet connection is faster
