Have not really been sorting my nickels or grading yet but what do you guys think about the grade on this? I'm at at least EF40-45. I think there may be to many dings to be AU I'll throw some better pictures when I get a chance. Sorry about the lighting, I'm in a shed at the moment Edited by Wrekkdd 12/11/2021 1:05 pm

Nice looking 41 but the obverse rim seems a bit damaged on the left side to make AU.

I'm not sure the rim is actually damaged,I'd have to get a closer look but kinda looks like a tiny rim Cud, it's also a slight mad so tiny folded Rim Fin is also a possibility, I put the coin back away for now untill I get home. It looks like extra metal though as it appears on top of the rim rather then invented.

Damage does not affect the grade, only wear does. Damage renders a coin ungradeable, US TPGs would grade this coin AU Details, with no numeric value assigned. What you have here is basically a hole filler, a coin to hang on to till something better comes along.

@DBM, all my coins are whole fillers lol, this was the better of the 3 1941 I have found. I'll post new photos later due to the crazy lighting I was working with. the is a fair amount of circulation hits on the obverse which as you said would probably be enough alone the not get a straight grade. The rim I'm pretty sure is fine. Thanks.

I'll say AU-55, probably a details coin.

I'd say lower end of the AU scale. Yes, a good hole filler.

These pictures are a little better. I usually prefer natural lighting but it's dark out now.weirdly the reverse seems to be in much better shape then the obverse. I'll be happy to have it as a whole filler considering it was a roll hunt find.

For an 80 year old 5cent found in a circulation roll I'm happy with the condition even if details.there is several 1940s I still need including 42,43,44,46,48,49.
